Lake Manyara National Park

Forest, lake and Rift Valley escarpment in one compact park.

About Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park sits at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Within a small area you move from groundwater forest to acacia woodland to open floodplain beside the lake.

Large troops of baboons and blue monkeys, elephants, buffalo, giraffes and hippos are regularly seen. Flamingos and other waterbirds gather on the lake when conditions suit, and lions here are sometimes seen resting in trees, though never reliably.

Lake Manyara works well as a short stop on the way between Tarangire and Ngorongoro.
