FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about planning, travelling and booking a safari in Tanzania.

Booking & payments

How do I book?

Send a quote request or booking request through the website. We will confirm availability and send a written quote or booking summary. Your booking is confirmed once we confirm it in writing and any agreed deposit has been received.

Do I have to pay online?

No. Quote and booking requests on this website do not take payment. We send payment details and instructions by email after we have agreed the details with you.

Planning

When is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania?

Tanzania offers good wildlife viewing all year. The dry season from late June to October is the most popular because animals gather near water and roads are easier. January to March is excellent for calving herds in the southern Serengeti. The wetter months from April to May are quieter and greener. Tell us what you want to see and we will recommend the best timing.

How much does a Tanzania safari cost?

Prices depend on the length of the trip, the parks, the season, the type of accommodation and how many people are travelling. The "from" prices on our safari pages are a guide only. Send us a quote request and we will reply with a clear, itemised price for your dates.

Can you customise an itinerary?

Yes. Every safari we plan is tailor-made. You can change the length, swap accommodation styles, add a balloon flight, a Kilimanjaro climb or a Zanzibar beach extension. Start with a quote request and we will refine it with you.

How many days do I need?

Most first-time visitors enjoy between five and eight days. A short taster of three to four days is possible, and ten days or more lets you add the Serengeti at a relaxed pace or a beach stay. See our travel guide for more detail.

Safari experience

Can children join a safari?

Yes, though minimum ages vary between lodges and activities such as walking safaris. Tell us the ages of your children when you enquire and we will recommend suitable accommodation and activities.

Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?

No. Animals are wild and move freely, so no operator can guarantee particular sightings. We plan for the best chances based on the season and use experienced drivers who know the parks.

Travel & health

Do I need a visa for Tanzania?

Most visitors do need a visa. Requirements depend on your nationality and can change, so please check the official government website or your nearest embassy well before you travel.

What vaccinations and health precautions do I need?

Health requirements depend on your nationality and where you are travelling from, so speak to your doctor or a travel clinic several weeks before you travel. Malaria prevention is usually recommended, and a yellow fever certificate may be required in some cases.

Is Tanzania safe for travellers?

Safaris and excursions in Tanzania are enjoyed by many visitors every year. Take the usual precautions as you would anywhere, follow your guide's advice around wildlife and keep valuables secure in towns. Your guide will brief you at the start of your trip.

What should I pack?

Pack light layers in neutral colours, a warm jacket for early mornings, sun protection, binoculars and comfortable shoes. We have a packing guide in our travel guide section.
