Arusha National Park

A varied park on Arusha's doorstep, with Mount Meru above.

About Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park is small but varied. Within it are the forested Ngurdoto Crater, the Momella Lakes with their wading birds, open grassland where giraffes browse and the slopes of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest peak at 4,566 metres.

Because it is near Arusha, the park is a good choice for a day trip, a first-day safari or a gentler start for families. Walking safaris with an armed ranger and canoe trips on the Momella Lakes are among the activities available.

Look for black-and-white colobus monkeys in the forest, buffalo, warthog and giraffe on the plains and flamingos on the lakes at certain times.
