Planning your safari

How Many Days Do You Need for a Tanzania Safari?

From a three-day taster to a ten-day grand tour, here is how trip length changes what you can enjoy.

Three to four days

Enough for a taste of safari, such as Tarangire and Ngorongoro, or Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro. A good option if time is short.

Five to seven days

A sweet spot for many travellers. You can add the Serengeti, where distances are large and the best game viewing rewards at least two or three nights.

Eight to ten days

Gives you time for a slower pace, a balloon flight, a second area of the Serengeti or a beach extension. It is also a good length for a southern circuit in Nyerere and Ruaha.

Longer trips

If you want to combine a Kilimanjaro climb, a safari and the coast, plan around twelve to fourteen days.

Our tip

Do not underestimate travel time. Distances between parks are long, and a slower itinerary with fewer stops is usually more enjoyable than a rushed one.
